⚡ New Natural Gas Power Plant in Puerto Morelos ⚡

A new combined-cycle natural gas power plant is set to begin construction in Puerto Morelos by the end of this year. The facility will deliver a generation capacity of 208 megawatts—enough to cover around 6% of Quintana Roo’s total energy demand.

Backed by a $100 million investment, the plant will be partially funded by the state government, though the final ownership stake and project siting—land or sea—are still being negotiated.

The plant will use pre-fabricated components, expediting installation, with operations anticipated by mid-2026. Its construction will span 350 hectares and utilize high-efficiency combined-cycle technology.
