Answer at the bottom of the newsletter

👋 Welcome to this week’s Puerto Morelos Insider

It's going to be a busy fun-filled weekend in Puerto Morelos. In fact it was hard to narrow it down to three best bets. And there are big festivals in Cancun and Playa Del Carmen this weekend as well.

If you are in Puerto Morelos this weekend do NOT miss the Gastronomica Festival! It's goes all day Friday and Saturday so you can go back and try many different local seafood dishes.

Local favorites Xibalba Roots are playing on the beach for free at Diving Bar, so you can dance in the sand to their roots reggae vibes.

We have added Happy Hours to the event listings at the bottom of the newsletter. If we missed any of your favorites send us an email at support@puertomorelosinsider.com

If you've ever wanted to learn spanish... Mexican spanish, not Spain spanish, check out our spotlighted business... The Puerto Morelos Language Center. They have helped many people become spanish speakers.

Finally, you'll notice new styling for the section headers. We are always working to make this newsletter better, hope you like it.

Have a great weekend!

Skip the tourist restaurants and buy ceviche or fresh fish directly from the Cooperativa de Pescadores by the main pier—ask for “lo que hay hoy.” (“what's on today.”)

Cancún International Airport
Set for Major Modernization

The Cancún International Airport (AIC) is about to get a major upgrade! As part of a nationwide infrastructure plan, Cancún is one of 62 airports across Mexico slated for modernization between 2025 and 2030, according to the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT).

A total of 134 billion pesos will be invested in airport improvements, with ASUR (the airport operator) dedicating 21 billion pesos to its five-year plan. For 2025 alone, 4.5 billion pesos are earmarked for upgrades—almost double what was spent in 2024.

Why the big investment? Passenger numbers are soaring! In 2025, Cancún International Airport saw an 8% increase in travelers, reaching 32.8 million passengers. The airport currently handles up to 12,000 passengers per hour, and the upgrades will help it keep pace with growing demand.

A highlight of the plan is the renovation of Terminal 1, expected to be completed by late 2026. The improvements will boost efficiency and comfort for both domestic and international travelers.

This ambitious project is a joint effort between public and private sectors, with contributions from ASUR, the Navy, and the Secretariat of National Defense. Other major airports, including Mexico City, Guadalajara, Tijuana, and Monterrey, are also set for upgrades.
