Trivia Question❓

What key transportation link historically connected Puerto Morelos to the island of Cozumel, making it an important port for both locals and tourists before newer travel options were developed?

Answer at the bottom of the newsletter

👋 Welcome to this week’s Puerto Morelos Insider

While it may not be 'snowbird' season, the town is buzzing. School is out and families all over Mexico are enjoying their summer vacation.

It's estimated that hotel occupancy is around 80% right now. So good news for our friends who own local businesses.

There are 3 unique and very different events in our Best Bets section. From a Psychedelic Beach Bash, to the music of Heartbreak Queens, and on Sunday a Vinyl Fair featuring DJs from all over Quintana Roo.

Looking to buy property in Puerto Morelos? It just got a lot safer. See the story below.

We at the Insider love animals so we support the adoption of local Furry Friends. So be sure to check out super cute dogger Negrita.

We also love to support local businesses, so please visit our sponsored businesses. Even if it's just to say "We saw you in the Insider!"

Finally another new feature!

We launched a new "Photo of the Week" section and want to feature your amazing shots of Puerto Morelos and surrounding area. Send in your best photos and get a chance to showcase your talent. Snap away and share your world with us!

Insider Tip

Ojo de Agua (Eye of Water)

Snorkeling in Puerto Morelos is a must-do activity, but instead of booking a tour, you can rent snorkel gear and swim out to the Ojo de Agua from the public beach.

Ojo de Agua is a unique dive spot because it's where fresh cenote water pours out into the sea water from a large opening on the ocean floor. This mix of water attracts large schools of tropical fish.

To find 'el Ojo' stand in front of Dia y Noche beach club and look out about 100 yards / 90 meters. You will see a white buoy. Swim towards that and Ojo de Agua is about 10-15 feet from it. You will feel the water get colder when you get near.

Local Matters

Puerto Morelos is making property purchases safer and more transparent for expats and international buyers.

The Mexican Association of Real Estate Professionals has launched Siqroo, an online platform that allows users to verify the legal status of properties and check agent certifications in Quintana Roo.

Backed by state officials, Siqroo aims to stamp out fraud and rogue operators, offering peace of mind for buyers, investors, and developers.

This move is urgent—many deals in the region have lacked proper paperwork, causing major headaches and legal disputes.

With expert agents trained in the new system and over 350 already certified statewide, buyers have strong professional support.

Recent environmental protections, including a 5,000-hectare reserve, limit new land availability, boosting property values and enhancing the area’s eco-friendly appeal.

Puerto Morelos now shines as a secure, responsible option for savvy local and international investors.

Meet Negrita

Hi there! I'm Negrita, and I've got quite a tale to tell.

Once upon a time, I was left all alone in an empty lot, hungry and with a chain around my neck. But then, some amazing humans came to my rescue, and now I'm ready for a new chapter with a loving family.

At 3 years old, I'm the perfect companion—noble, loyal, and pretty adorable, if I do say so myself. I'm spayed, well-behaved, and totally house-trained.
