A Local Seafood Favorite Worth Leaving the Beach For
If you want to eat where locals go for fresh seafood and pay local prices instead of tourist prices, El Picudo is the kind of place people in Puerto Morelos mention again and again.
Located on the colonia side of town on Avenida J. Zetina Gasca, this casual seafood restaurant has built its reputation on generous portions, fair prices, and dishes that taste unmistakably local.
What stands out most about El Picudo is that it does not try to be flashy. The appeal is simpler than that: fresh ceviche, grilled fish, shrimp, lobster, octopus, and hearty seafood plates served in an authentic setting with friendly, attentive service.
Reviewers consistently describe it as a true local spot rather than a tourist trap, and that distinction matters in Puerto Morelos. It is the kind of place where the food arrives hot, the seafood tastes fresh, and the portions make you feel like you got your money’s worth.
The restaurant also earns praise for value. Locals highlight how reasonable the prices are compared with beach-zone or resort dining, especially for seafood.
That combination of freshness, portion size, and neighborhood atmosphere is what makes El Picudo such a strong pick for visitors who want a more everyday Puerto Morelos experience.

Getting from the Cancun airport to your beach hotel is about to get much easier and less stressful for travelers.
Ending Taxi Confusion
Travelers at Cancun Airport often deal with high prices and pushy taxi drivers. To fix this, government officials are finally creating official fare schedules to help protect visitors from overcharging.
This change will stop drivers from charging random rates to places like nearby Puerto Morelos. You will soon know exactly what you should pay for your ride before you even land.
Tips for Your Trip
For now, it is still smartest to book a private shuttle before you leave your home. This guarantees a set price and ensures a professional driver is waiting for you when you walk outside.
If you take a taxi on-site, always agree on the price before getting in the car. Experts suggest saving a copy of the new government rate cards on your phone once they are released.
Soon, ride-sharing apps like Uber will also have safe, official spots to pick up passengers. This will make the 40-minute drive down the coast much more transparent and affordable for everyone. Read More... |
Get ready for a world-class performance coming to the Teastro de la Ciudad Cancún.
A famous international show called "Titizé – A Venetian Dream" is heading to the Mexican Caribbean this spring and will run from April 23 to May 3 2026.
Amazing Sights and Sounds
This show combines circus arts, music, and high-flying acrobatics into one beautiful story. It was created by the same famous director who worked on Cirque du Soleil and Olympic opening ceremonies.
The story is told through movement and visuals instead of spoken words. Because of this, it is easy for everyone to understand, no matter what language they speak. This makes it a perfect night out for families with kids of all ages.
A Rare Opportunity
Big shows like this usually only visit huge cities like Guadalajara or Mexico City. Having this world-class production land right in Cancún is a special treat for people living in the Riviera Maya.
The theater is easy to find and just a short drive or bus ride from nearby towns. It is a great reminder that you can find high-quality culture right in your own backyard.
Tickets for confirmed performances are available through the Mistickets website and also at the Teatro de la Ciudad box office Monday through Friday from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

Hurricane winds are scary, but heavy rain is often the real danger. Mexico is launching a new alert system to help everyone stay ahead of the storm.
New Rain Warnings are Coming
Starting in 2026, the government will send "extraordinary rain" alerts directly to your cell phone. These messages will arrive a few days before heavy rain is expected to hit your area.
The goal is to help people prepare for flash floods and landslides. The system works like the earthquake alerts already used in Mexico and will reach anyone near a cell tower.
Staying Safe in Puerto Morelos
Towns like Puerto Morelos are at high risk because they sit near the water and flood very quickly. Even storms that do not make a direct hit can cause dangerous levels of water on the streets.
To get these messages, you must check your phone settings and turn on "Government Alerts." This simple step works for both iPhone and Android users and can save your life.
Based On Your Location
This warning system it is not tied to a specific Mexican carrier. It is designed to reach any compatible mobile phone in Mexico, regardless of the phone company.
You only receive it if your phone is physically in the affected area (for example, a hurricane zone or heavy rain forecast area).
However Emergency Alerts must be enabled in your phone settings.
The 2026 hurricane season begins in May and June. Make sure your phone is ready before the rain starts to fall. Read More... |
Sargassum Report |
Every summer, beautiful beaches in Mexico turn brown and smelly due to piles of seaweed called sargassum. This mess usually hurts tourism and damages the ocean's coral reefs. However, one man found a brilliant way to turn that stinky problem into brand-new homes for his community.
Turning Trash into Treasure
Omar Vázquez Sánchez started a company called Blue-Green to create "sargablocks."
These building bricks are made by mixing crushed seaweed with limestone and other natural materials. The blocks are much cheaper than regular bricks and can dry in just six hours without being baked.
Building with seaweed also helps the environment by cleaning up the coast. It stops the seaweed from releasing harmful gases as it rots on the sand. This process protects both the air and the local sea creatures.
Stronger and Safer Homes
Scientists have tested these seaweed blocks to make sure they are safe for local families. They found the blocks are strong enough to stand up to powerful hurricanes and even earthquakes. This makes them a great choice for building in coastal areas.
So far, Omar has donated 13 of these seaweed houses to families who need affordable places to live. He is proving that with a little creativity, a big environmental problem can become a helpful solution for the world. Read More... |
