Puerto Morelos has upgraded its official Visitor Services Kiosk in Parque Fundadores, right in the heart of the Old Town near the pier and leaning lighthouse.

The booth is staffed by the municipality’s Sustainable Tourism Secretariat and offers bilingual help in Spanish and English for visitors looking for local guidance.

What Visitors Can Find There

The kiosk works like a simple, official concierge for town. Visitors can ask about restaurants, snorkeling, local services, currency exchange, and other practical tips before heading out to explore. It is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

A Fresh New Look

The renovation, announced by Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz on June 28, 2026, includes a new mural by local artist Flavio Añasco inspired by the Puerto Morelos Reef National Park. The update adds color and local character to an already useful stop.

The Problem and the Plan

Mexico is putting 2 billion pesos into its Sargassum Action Plan through 2026. The money will buy tugboats, special collection boats, and barriers to stop the seaweed before it hits the beach.

Five key spots will get help first... Cancún, Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, and Mahahual. But don't expect fast results, since new boats and equipment take time to build and deliver.

Puerto Morelos Gets a Special Role

Puerto Morelos already has less seaweed than most nearby areas, thanks to its reef and 2.3 kilometers of barriers. Now the state has picked it as home base for turning sargassum into useful products like biofuel, fertilizer, and bioplastics.

A program called Caribe Circular wants to convert up to 2 million tons of sargassum by 2028 and create 3,500 jobs. That's the goal, not a guarantee, but it's a promising sign for the town.
