Weekly Weather

Panna e Cioccolato is a beloved gelato shop just off the main square in Puerto Morelos, known for its creamy Italian-style ice cream, creative flavors, and friendly service.

Visitors and locals rave about favorites like Bailey’s, canela, and chili-chocolate, plus classic fruit sorbets and chocolates. .

It is an easy stop during an evening walk along the plaza or after dinner, and Puerto Discount Card holders enjoy special savings on their treats..

They are also part of the Puerto Discount Card program, so cardholders get an extra sweet deal on their scoops.

What People Are Saying:.

“Best Bailey’s ice cream ever! Great selection of gelato and chocolates. Located right on the square, we ended up coming back several nights in a row.” ~ Megan H. (Tripadvisor)

“We went here several times during our stay. The canela and chili/chocolate flavors were amazing, and the woman working there was so patient and friendly with our terrible Spanish.” ~ Jeff B. (Tripadvisor)

“Great ice cream and great prices. Food 5, service 5, atmosphere 5. Our favorite gelato stop in Puerto Morelos.” ~ Mike M. (Google)

“I am not an ice cream person, but this gelato is possibly the best treat ever on a hot day at the beach or as an after‑dinner dessert. So creamy and flavorful.” ~ Sarah L. (Yelp)

👉 Insider Tip: The best time to go is right after dinner, before the evening rush on the plaza, between about 7:00 and 8:00 p.m., you usually get fresher pans of the most popular flavors (they melt fast in the late afternoon and get topped up early evening). Plus a little more time to sample tastes and chat with the staff about which flavors are new that week.

Portside Perspective

"Tradition in Mexico is not nostalgia — it is continuity."

~ Carlos Fuentes

Insider Tip: Las Posadas

From December 16th to the 24th, you might hear singing and music drifting through the streets in the evenings. These are Las Posadas, a nine-day celebration that reenacts Mary and Joseph’s search for an inn.

While many posadas are private parties for families or workplaces, you will often see public processions, especially in La Colonia.

If you see a group walking with candles and singing, you’re witnessing a beautiful local tradition. It’s a festive and welcoming time, and simply being a respectful observer is a wonderful way to experience the local culture.

Puerto Pulse

The Cancun Christmas Fair is back for the 2025 holiday season, and it is one of the easiest big events to enjoy from Puerto Morelos.

Held at the corner of Avenida Kabah and Avenida Xcaret in Cancún, the fair runs from December 13 to January 11 and turns this part of the city into a glowing carnival of lights, music, and food.

The fair is operated by Espectaculares García and features more than 25 rides, including the Sky Flyer, billed as Mexico's tallest chair tower.

Visitors can also expect a Ferris wheel, classic carousels, family rides, kids' attractions, and plenty of games.

Entry to the fairgrounds is typically free, while tickets for rides and snacks are purchased separately, making it easy to choose how much you want to spend.

For Puerto Morelos residents and visitors, the fair is an ideal evening outing. It is a straight shot up the federal highway, and you can be stepping onto the midway in about 30 minutes by car under normal traffic.

With bright lights, warm weather, and plenty of local antojitos, the Cancun Christmas Fair is a festive way to get into the holiday spirit close to home.

Puerto Morelos is known for its quiet beaches and small town feel, but it is also starting to benefit from a new focus on medical tourism in nearby Cancun.

The region is drawing visitors who want both quality healthcare and a relaxing place to recover by the sea.

Cancun’s recent Expo Turismo Health & Wellness 2025 brought together more than 80 businesses and health experts from Mexico and abroad.

Backed by the Benito Juárez Tourism Secretariat and Coparmex Quintana Roo, the event highlighted modern hospitals, English speaking staff, and prices that are often much lower than in the United States or Canada.

For people living in Puerto Morelos, this growing medical hub just up the highway means better access to specialists, advanced treatments, and certified hospitals.

At the same time, Puerto Morelos offers something Cancun cannot, a calm, walkable town that is ideal for rest and recovery.

Visitors can schedule a procedure in Cancun, then spend a few peaceful days healing in Puerto Morelos, close to the reef and the jungle.

With more investment and interest in health and wellness, the town is well placed to become a preferred recovery and wellness spot on the Riviera Maya.

Great news for visitors and locals in Puerto Morelos! The famous Nohoch Mul pyramid in Cobá is now open for climbing again after six years of important restoration work.

This means you can once more reach the top of this amazing ancient structure, making a day trip from Puerto Morelos even more special.

The path to the top is much safer now, thanks to a brand-new wooden staircase. Skilled local workers built these stairs, which makes the climb easier and helps protect the ancient pyramid.

From the 140-foot-tall summit, you can enjoy amazing views of the vast ancient city of Cobá and the jungle all around.

The renovation cost about $277,000 and was carefully managed by experts to preserve our heritage. This project ensures that future generations can also enjoy this important piece of history.

For those in Puerto Morelos, this reopening means a favorite adventure is even better, offering a fantastic way to experience Maya culture.

Puerto Morelos is growing fast, with new homes and investment opportunities all around town.  Along with this growth, authorities like CONDUSEF are warning about a rise in real estate and credit scams across Quintana Roo.

Some people pose as "advisors" or "credit managers" for home loans and land deals, even though they have no official registration, no license with the state, and no real link to any bank.

These fake advisors often promise instant approvals, special low rates, or exclusive programs, then pressure you to send money or documents quickly.

Your best defense is to work only with certified, registered real estate professionals who appear in the SEDETUS registry and can prove their relationship with banks and developers.

Always verify an advisor's credentials directly with the bank or through official government channels. If Spanish websites feel overwhelming, you can have your real estate lawyer or notario in Quintana Roo confirm SEDETUS registration as part of their due diligence.

By insisting on proper registration and clear proof, it makes it safer for everyone to invest in Puerto Morelos.
