La Petita en la Playita
👉 Insider Tip: If you are ordering fried whole fish, ask what was caught that morning and let them recommend the right size for your table. Locals often share one big fish and then add a ceviche or coconut shrimp for the middle of the table, so you taste more and usually spend less. |
Portside Perspective |
"The Mayan world follows an organic path based on the Natural Order, respect for Mother Nature, and both cosmic and earthly influences." |
Insider Tip: Local Fav Cenote |
While the Ruta de los Cenotes has many famous options, locals often prefer the quieter, less-commercialized cenotes. |

Get ready, Puerto Morelos! Our town is expecting a fantastic and busy end to the year.
Officials predict that almost all hotel rooms and vacation rentals will be almost full, reaching 90% occupancy. This exciting forecast comes after a very busy November, which boosted December reservations.
Visitors from the United States are our biggest group, along with guests from Canada and Europe. They come to relax on our quiet beaches and enjoy the unique attractions Puerto Morelos offers.
This influx of visitors is great news for our whole community. High occupancy means more business for local restaurants, shops, and tour guides.
This helps many families and makes our local economy thrive, bringing good cheer to Puerto Morelos.

Puerto Morelos just got a big glow up in its historic heart. The old town, known as the Casco Antiguo, now has bright new LED lights.
This is great news for everyone living in, working in, or visiting our seaside town.
The municipal president, Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz, turned on 260 new LED luminarias in Parque Fundadores and the surrounding streets, including the route toward the fishing pier. The project cost about 3 million pesos.
The money for these lights came from the environmental sanitation fee, a special fund paid mainly by tourists and managed through a public trust.
This lighting work is part of the wider “Puerto Morelos Brilla” program, which plans the installation of around 1,200 new LED lights across the municipality in different phases.
The new lights make Puerto Morelos look better and feel safer at night for residents and visitors.
Because they are LED and meet national energy efficiency standards, they also use less electricity, which helps the town’s budget, while supporting tourism and local life. Read More... |
Sian Ka'an, a UNESCO World Heritage site south of Puerto Morelos, is a wild and beautiful natural wonder in Mexico.
This vast reserve, meaning "origin of the sky," offers clear waters, lush nature, and a home for diverse wildlife like jaguars, manatees, and sea turtles. It's a special place where history and nature meet for an unforgettable experience.
For an easy and magical adventure, visit the Muyil entrance, about an hour and a half from Puerto Morelos.
You can walk to ancient Mayan ruins, then take a peaceful boat trip through canals dug by the Maya centuries ago. The clear water gently carries you through mangroves, like a natural lazy river with deep history.
If you seek more adventure, head to Punta Allen, the wild oceanic part of Sian Ka'an. The road is very rough, and a high-clearance vehicle is strongly recommended, with 4x4 ideal especially in rainy season.
You might see wild dolphins and snorkel the Mesoamerican reef.
Guided tours are a good option for this remote area, handling all the logistics. For planning from Puerto Morelos, Lighthouse Tours can help arrange your visit.
Sian Ka'an offers a unique escape into nature, different from typical beaches.

Puerto Morelos is making it easier for visitors to find official, registered businesses.
A state program called Retur-Q lists local tourism businesses that are legally registered and meet basic safety and paperwork requirements. This helps you feel a bit safer and more confident when choosing where to spend your money.
Our town is seeing a big jump in registered businesses. Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz shared that 129 businesses in Puerto Morelos are now part of Retur-Q.
That is a big increase from last year and shows more local businesses are keeping their permits, insurance and training up to date.
Businesses on the Retur-Q list can also get extra support from the state, like training and help with promotion.
For visitors, this brings peace of mind. You can use the online catalog to see if a business is officially recognized by the state and operating with the proper permits. The site even shows many businesses on a map, which makes it easier to find what you need around town.
Many different types of places appear on the list, from restaurants and hotels to shops, tour operators and spas. Retur-Q helps local businesses stay visible and legal, and it makes Puerto Morelos a safer and more transparent place for everyone. Read More... |
