This unexpected arrival changed everything for local leaders. They decided to move away from seasonal cleaning and start a permanent plan to protect the coastline.

Stronger Protection for Beaches

The Mexican Navy is leading the effort with new tools and constant monitoring. They are using miles of floating barriers that act like underwater fences to catch the seaweed before it hits the beach.

More barriers will be added this year to help popular spots like Puerto Morelos. This new strategy ensures that the water stays blue and the sand stays clean for visitors during every month of the year.
