Weekly Weather

If you are looking for the true heart of the Puerto Morelos Colonia scene, look no further than Micheladas del Semáforo.

Located right by the Chedraui and tucked near the highway bridge, this local favorite gets its name from a traffic light that isn't even there anymore!

It is the ultimate spot to grab a massive, ice-cold michelada, some of the best wings in town, or a cheesy pizza while catching a game.

And if you enjoy craft beers... you will LOVE Micheladas!

Featuring 5 Mexican craft beers on tap (cerveza de barril). The featured craft beers rotate throughout the year, giving you a chance to sample from different regions and small breweries throughout Mexico.

They also feature live music almost every day of the week, and on weekends often have different local bands at 7:30pm and 10:30pm.

Micheladas has an upstairs patio where you can sit and watch the traffic jams below, enjoying your cold draft beer above the chaos.

The vibe is casual, loud, and full of life. Whether you are stopping by for a quick lunch or settling in for a long night with friends, the service is friendly and the beer is always frosty.

What People Are Saying:

👉 Insider Tip: Don't just stick to the standard beer! Ask for the Michelada con Camarones. It basically comes with a snack built right onto the rim of your glass. Also, if you are sensitive to noise, try to grab a table further back from the speakers or upstairs, as the music can get pretty lively during the weekends!

Insider Tip: High Wind Plan B

Port closed due to strong winds? Snorkeling or fishing trip cancelled? No problem... Wander through the Botanical Gardens!

Just south of town is the Jardín Botánico Dr. Alfredo Barrera Marín, one of the largest botanical gardens in Mexico.

The jungle canopy provides a natural shield from the wind, making it a peaceful and beautiful place to spend a few hours.

Follow the trails, look for the resident spider monkeys, and discover the ancient Mayan ruins hidden within the grounds.

Local News

Pet owners in the Riviera Maya have something big to bark about! A brand-new, modern animal hospital is coming to Cancun very soon.

A Top-Tier Medical Center

Construction started in January on this 30 million peso project. It will be built at an old slaughterhouse location in Superblock 99.

The large building will include four exam rooms and two surgery rooms. It will also feature professional X-ray machines and medical labs for better testing.

Wait times will be shorter because the center can hold over 150 animals. It will even have a special area for people to adopt new pets and help street animals.

Big Benefits for Nearby Neighbors

This hospital is great news for families living in Puerto Morelos. It is only about 30 minutes away, making it much easier to reach during an emergency.

The project happened because local citizens voted for it through a special budget program. They wanted better ways to protect street animals and provide care for family pets.

This new center shows a strong regional commitment to animal safety. It will help keep the community's furry family members healthy and happy for years to come.

Imagine a city where every single building is painted bright, sunny yellow. Izamal, Mexico, is a hidden gem that feels like stepping into a different world.

This February marks 24 years since Izamal received its official Pueblo Mágico designation from the Mexican federal government, one of the first towns in the country to earn the title back in 2002.

History and Culture

Izamal is famous for blending ancient Maya ruins with beautiful colonial buildings and modern life. This "City of Three Cultures" is home to giant pyramids that sit right next to the town’s colorful shops.

The Convent of San Antonio de Padua is the star of the city. Built on top of a Maya temple, it features the second-largest closed courtyard in the world. Even Pope John Paul II visited this massive site back in 1993.

Why You Should Visit

Unlike busy tourist spots, Izamal is quiet and slow-paced. You can ride in a horse-drawn carriage or shop for handmade crafts from local artists. The regional food is also delicious and very affordable.

It is an easy two-hour drive from the coast and makes a great day trip. Many travelers visit Izamal while exploring other famous ruins like Chichen Itza. It is a must-see for anyone wanting a peaceful, authentic adventure.

Puerto Morelos is getting safer one officer at a time. A group of 30 local police recently finished a special "first responder" course. This training makes them much better at helping people during emergencies.

New Skills for the Force

The 12-hour course taught officers how to handle crime scenes correctly. They learned how to write reports and treat suspects fairly. It also focused on respecting human rights while keeping order.

Another group of 30 officers will take the same class next week. This ensures the entire team uses the same rules to protect the public. The city wants every officer to be an expert at their job.

A Safer Place for Everyone

This training helps make sure criminals are held accountable for their actions. If officers make mistakes at a scene, a suspect might go free. Proper training helps keep the community safe from harm.

Mayor Tziu Muñoz says these lessons help build trust with the public. Both locals and tourists can feel safer knowing the police are well-trained. The goal is to keep Puerto Morelos a peaceful destination for everyone.

Adoptable Furry Friend

Pet Adoption Fair This Saturday in Puerto Morelos

This month, instead of spotlighting a single dog or cat, we want to share a community event that helps many animals at once.

This Saturday, February 21, Puerto Morelos will host a Pet Adoption Fair from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Parque del Puerto, Casco Antiguo, also known locally as Parque Fundadores. (town square near the lighthouse)

The event brings together local rescuers, foster families, and animal lovers to promote responsible pet adoption in a relaxed, family-friendly setting near the beach.

Visitors can meet dogs and cats looking for homes, enjoy music, learn about animal care, and support the cause through donations.

If you have a dog or cat that is healthy, sterilized, vaccinated, and ready for adoption, there are still limited spots available for pets to participate in the event. Foster parents and rescuers must be present during the fair to help manage their animals.

Whether you are hoping to adopt, support local rescue efforts, or help spread the word, this is a great way to show love for animals in our community here in Puerto Morelos.

Adoption changes lives. Sometimes more than one at a time.

Events Calendar

Puerto Morelos is buzzing this week with reef conservation, local pets looking for homes, and a full-day ceviche celebration by the sea.

What’s Happening Around Town

On top of the big events like Corals & Cocktails, the Puerto Paws adoption fair, and the 14th Annual Ceviche Festival, the usual live music circuit is going strong.

Diving Bar, La Sirena, Tanino’s, Cantina Habanero, Live Music Hall, Micheladas del Semáforo, Unico Beach Club, and other local favorites all have bands, DJs, and karaoke lined up through the weekend and into the week.

You’ll find everything from classic rock and blues to flamenco fusion, salsa nights, and karaoke, depending on the day. If you like to hop venues, you can easily catch afternoon sets at the beach, then head into town for nighttime shows.

Happy Hours & Food Deals

If you’re planning your day around sunsets and 2-for-1s, there are plenty of options. Blue Morelos runs all-day happy hour, while spots like La Sirena, My Paradise, Portside PM, Fonda Americana Grill, and Don Ernesto’s have afternoon and early evening drink specials most days of the week.

Between ceviche at the festival, paella classes at El Pirata, and restaurant deals in town, it’s a good week for food lovers who want to mix local flavors with a few well-timed cocktails.

Classes, Wellness & Markets

There’s more than nightlife on the calendar. You’ll find mosaic art sessions, Pilates and salsa at Casa de la Cultura, beach yoga near The Fives, free Spanish classes, and cooking classes at Mexico Lindo and El Pirata.

For shopping, the midweek Farmers Market runs by the church, the Artisan Market lights up the main square on weekend evenings, and the Tianguis Market in La Colonia fills the street with produce, clothing, and household goods every Sunday.
