If you're craving a seriously good burger in Puerto Morelos, The Burger Underground is your spot.
Located right on Avenida Javier Rojo Gomez next to Cantina Habanero, this local favorite has been winning hearts (and stomachs) with their handcrafted burgers made from 100% real beef and homemade bread.
What makes them special? Everything is made fresh! Their hand-cut fries come in regular or specialty styles like garlic parmesan, Cajun, and buffalo.
You can choose from juicy beef burgers, tender chicken breast options, or their flavorful vegan patties made with black beans, quinoa, mushrooms, onions, and oats. Want to go big? Double up on your patty!
They also serve wings with your choice of buffalo, BBQ, Cajun, natural, or buffanero sauces, plus a tasty Cajun chicken sandwich. While they don't have a liquor license, you can grab a cold soda here and then head next door to Cantina Habanero for a beer.
The vibe is casual and welcoming, with both indoor seating and on-street dining. The Burger Underground even won the XPM Award for Favorite Burger in Puerto Morelos, so you know they're doing something right!

👉 Insider Tip: Ask for the house-made jalapeño sauce! It's not always advertised, but locals know to request it. This homemade dipping sauce pairs perfectly with their hand-cut fries and takes your burger to the next level.
Also, if you want more bang for your buck, order the garlic parmesan fries instead of regular. They're loaded with flavor and worth every peso. |
Insider Tip: Caranval Food |
Forget the restaurants for one night and eat at the carnaval fairgrounds.
This is where you’ll find the best carnival food... think marquesitas, fresh-cut mango with chili, esquites (corn in a cup), and tacos al pastor. It’s cheap, delicious, and part of the fun. |

The Puerto Morelos Reef National Park just celebrated 28 years as a protected area. This colorful wonder helps the local community stay strong and healthy.
Why the Reef Matters
Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz says the reef is the heart of the town’s identity. It is part of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, which is the second-largest coral system in the world.
Being a protected park provides jobs for thousands of local families through tourism and fishing. This keeps the economy growing while preserving the home of many amazing sea animals.
Protecting This Natural Treasure
Local groups and scientists work together every day to monitor the health of the coral. They teach visitors and residents how to enjoy the ocean without damaging the sensitive environment.
The town also created a new department to focus on nature and sustainable growth. This ensures the reef remains beautiful even as more people move to or visit the area.
Protecting the reef is a major team effort. Everyone works together to make sure this special ecosystem survives for another 28 years and beyond. Read More... |
