Insider Tip: Mamey Season

July is the perfect time to try Mamey, a unique fruit native to the Yucatan.

It looks like a brown coconut on the outside, but inside it is bright orange-red with a creamy texture that tastes like a mix of sweet potato, pumpkin, and almond.

Patriots Cheerleaders Choose Our Town for Calendar Shoot

The New England Patriots Cheerleaders recently spent several days in Puerto Morelos filming their 2027 calendar at Dreams Sapphire Resort & Spa.

The squad participated in fitness training, wellness experiences, gastronomic activities, and of course, professional photo sessions showcasing our stunning beaches and Caribbean scenery.

Putting Puerto Morelos on the World Stage

The cheerleaders shared behind-the-scenes content across social media to thousands of NFL fans, giving our destination international exposure.

Local government officials said the partnership helps strengthen Puerto Morelos' image as a destination for world-class events and productions.

This is another example of how Puerto Morelos is attracting high-profile sports and entertainment productions.

The Patriots have a tradition of shooting their calendars at tropical destinations, and this year they chose us. It's a testament to the natural beauty, hospitality, and professional infrastructure that make our town increasingly attractive to major international projects.

Our town just did something pretty cool.

Puerto Morelos sealed a time capsule on June 28, 2026, and won't open it until 2050.

What's Inside

Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu led the ceremony at Parque de los Fundadores. The stainless steel capsule holds letters, photos, maps, historical documents, and handmade artisan pieces.

Eleven local kids had their letters chosen to go inside. They wrote about how they imagine Puerto Morelos will look in 2050.

Why It Matters

Puerto Morelos only became its own municipality in 2016. The town is just ten years old, but it's already planning 24 years ahead.

The capsule connects to a bigger plan for the town's future. Leaders want the decisions made today to shape the community that future generations will inherit.

The Wait Begins

When the capsule opens in 2050, those kids will be in their thirties. The town they described, with its fishing docks, coral reef, and quiet streets, will be a happy memory from the past.

Watch Out for Fake Land Deals in Puerto Morelos

Dreaming of owning land near beautiful cenotes in Mexico? Scammers are counting on that dream to steal your money.

The Scam

Fraudsters offer land or homes at prices way below normal. They show fake documents, take you on tours, then ask for a deposit of 10,000 to 50,000 pesos. After you pay, they disappear.

Why Puerto Morelos

Puerto Morelos is one of the hottest real estate markets in Quintana Roo. That popularity makes it a prime target for fraud. State officials have already shut down several fake developments in the area.

How to Protect Yourself

Only buy properties that are already built so you can see exactly what you are getting. Always demand an official SEDETUS permit before signing anything.

Use your own notary and lawyer... never one suggested by the seller. Check the public property registry to confirm the title is real before handing over any money.

Sargassum Report

Every summer, crews haul tons of sargassum off the beach and dump it inland. But that rotting seaweed may be creating a hidden danger beneath our feet.

The Underground Threat

The Yucatan has no rivers, so all drinking water comes from underground. When sargassum breaks down, it creates a toxic liquid that can seep into the soil and reach that water supply.

Scientists have found this liquid contains dangerous metals like arsenic and lead.

Turning the Problem Into a Solution

Researchers at a university in Merida are fighting back with a clever idea. They are building water filters made from two local materials, sargassum itself and recycled plastic bottles.

These filters are designed to pull harmful metals and other pollutants out of water.

Why Puerto Morelos Should Pay Attention

The town's sargassum disposal site sits near the Ruta de los Cenotes, a road named for the natural springs connected to our water supply.

The filters are still being developed, but the idea is promising. The same seaweed causing problems could become part of the solution.
