Homemade Global Comfort Food in the Heart of La Colonia
Tulipan is a welcoming restaurant in the heart of La Colonia, serving fresh, homemade recipes built around local ingredients.
Featuring a wide-ranging kitchen with French, Asian, American BBQ, Italian, and Mexican influences, making it a good fit for diners who want something beyond a standard beach-town menu while staying close to the neighborhood rhythm of Puerto Morelos.
Chef Octavio and the Tulipan team are known for a menu that moves comfortably from steak, filet, and Beef Wellington to smoked meats, seafood specials, braised short ribs, and flavorful chicken dishes.
Guests especially appreciate the personal touch: attentive service, a chef who checks in at the table, and weekly specials that keep the experience fresh for returning locals and visitors.
Tulipan is also part of the community beyond the dining room. The restaurant regularly supports Cause4Paws events, including charity bingo gatherings with food and drink specials, prizes, raffles, and proceeds benefiting Cause4Paws and its animal-support work in Puerto Morelos.
It is the kind of neighborhood spot where a meal, a special event, and a good cause can come together in one easy stop.
What People Are Saying:

Puerto Morelos Is Making Art History
A major international art event is coming to Puerto Morelos, and everyone is welcome. Artists from nine countries are gathering to paint and celebrate this special corner of Mexico.
What's Happening
The First International Painting Symposium runs June 17 to 28 at the Centro Cultural y Museo de Puerto Morelos.
Artists from Spain, France, China, the UK, and more will create paintings inspired by local landmarks like the Faro Inclinado, the reef, and the mangroves.
The group will also work together on a collective mural called "Los Colores del Caribe." It is expected to be one of the most memorable pieces of the entire event.
Why It Matters
The public can visit anytime during the symposium to watch artists work, hear talks, and enjoy live music. The closing ceremony is set for June 28.
Best of all, every painting created will be donated to the local museum as a permanent collection. These works will belong to the community... forever. Read More... |
Big Healthcare Changes Are Coming to Quintana Roo
Quintana Roo's State Health Secretary, Flavio Carlos Rosado, has confirmed that seven to eight new hospitals are currently under construction or in advanced planning across the state.
Governor Mara Lezama has declared 2026 the "Year of Health" in Quintana Roo, calling it an investment without precedent in the state's history.
New Hospitals Are Being Built
Multiple new hospitals are under construction or in planning across the state. Governor Mara Lezama has declared 2026 the "Year of Health" in Quintana Roo.
The biggest project is the new Specialty Tower being built next to the existing Hospital General Jesús Kumate Rodríguez.
This will be Quintana Roo's first true third-level hospital, meaning it will handle complex cases that today require patients to travel to Mexico City or Mérida.
It will offer more than 26 specialties, including cardiology, neurosurgery, ophthalmology, and oncology. It will also include a dedicated mental health ward, a first for the state.
More Care for More People
An old abandoned building in Cancún is being turned into a brand-new Maternal and Child Hospital. It will have 104 beds and three operating rooms, serving mothers, newborns, and children in the area.
What This Means for Residents
Puerto Morelos has grown fast, but local medical options have not kept up. These new facilities mean that when something serious happens, much better care will be waiting just down the road. Read More... |
Mexico's Beach Access Law Is Stuck in Limbo
A law that would protect your right to walk freely on any beach in Mexico passed with nearly unanimous support... but it has been sitting in the Senate for seven months with no action.
What the Law Would Do
The reform would ban anyone from charging you just to reach the water. It would also require at least one free day per week at national parks and create a national registry to protect beach access points from quietly disappearing.
Tulum Is a Warning Sign
Without this law, beaches can slowly become off-limits to everyday people. In Tulum, visitors now pay 250 to 400 pesos to access beaches that used to be free, and tourism has suffered badly, with rental occupancy dropping below 50 percent.
Why Puerto Morelos Should Care
Puerto Morelos beaches are still open and free today. But the same legal gaps that hurt Tulum exist here too. This new law would lock in those protections permanently, keeping Puerto Morelos welcoming for everyone. Read More... |
Sargassum Report |
Puerto Morelos Faces Sargassum Season Without Its Best Cleanup Boats
The Mexican Navy's best seaweed-cleaning boats are stuck in a repair yard right now, and the timing couldn't be worse. A massive wave of sargassum is heading toward the Caribbean coast.
The Problem
Three specialized shallow-water vessels are undergoing repairs in Chetumal and could be out of service for up to a month. Meanwhile, scientists estimate around 3 million tons of seaweed are moving toward Quintana Roo's beaches.
Puerto Morelos Has Some Protection
The town's natural reef acts like a shield, breaking up seaweed mats before they hit the sand. Recovery here is faster than at other beaches along the Riviera Maya.
What's Being Done
Over 2,400 meters of anti-sargassum barriers have been installed along Puerto Morelos beaches. Larger Navy vessels and smaller support boats are still active, working to catch seaweed before it reaches shore.
The next few weeks are critical. Residents are encouraged to report heavy seaweed buildup to the municipal office right away. Read More... |
Adoptable Furry Friend |
Hi. I don't have a name yet, but just call me Pinto for now.
A little while ago, I was living on the streets, trying to figure things out on my own. Then a kind human named Jessica found me and showed me that not all days have to be hard.
She says I'm a sweetheart. I like people, I sit nicely, and I'm happiest when someone gives me a little attention. I don't ask for much. A safe place to sleep, a full belly, and someone to love would be more than I've ever had.
Jessica wishes she could keep me, but her apartment won't allow another dog. She's doing everything she can to help me find my forever family, and she's even willing to help with vet care and anything else I might need to get started.
I know there are a lot of dogs out there looking for homes. I'm just hoping one person sees me and thinks, "That's my new dog buddy."
If you've been thinking about adding a loyal friend to your life, maybe it's me.
Please message Jessica on Facebook if you'd like to meet me or learn more.
I'll be waiting.
Love, |
