👉 Insider Tip: Try the mole (mow lay) sauce! Mole is Mexico's version of a slow-cooked, complex sauce. It's thick, rich, and layered with sweet, savory, smoky, and spicy flavors, usually served over chicken or other meats.

Insider Tip: Midday Siesta

As the humidity rises in June, locals adapt their schedules. Do your exploring, shopping, and beach-going before 11:00 AM or after 4:00 PM.

The midday hours are for long, shaded lunches, swimming in cenotes, or taking a proper siesta in the AC.

Local News

People in Cancun, Puerto Morelos, and the Riviera Maya area are drinking a lot more wine. In fact, wine consumption has grown between 30% and 40% over just the last five years.

Mexico's Wine Culture Is Growing Fast

Mexicans are drinking more wine than ever before. Per person, wine consumption jumped from about half a cup in 2006 to over a full liter by 2020. Tourism is helping drive that growth across the whole region.

Puerto Morelos Has Its Own Wine Spot

You don't have to leave town to find a great wine experience. Tanino's on Avenida Rojo Gomez offers a huge selection of Mexican and international wines. They also have live music every night at 7:30 p.m. and a beautiful garden terrace.

Mexican Wine Is Worth Trying

About 90% of Mexico's wine comes from Baja California, especially the Valle de Guadalupe. Many of those bottles are now showing up on menus right here in the Caribbean. So when you order a local wine, you're tasting something truly special.

Cancún just got its first ever Municipal Chamber Orchestra, and free concerts are already on the way. This is a big deal for anyone living nearby, including residents of Puerto Morelos.

What's Happening in Cancún

The Benito Juárez city council launched the new orchestra to bring live classical music to more people.

The plan is to hold two free public concerts every month. Over time, the ensemble will grow into a full symphony orchestra.

Why Puerto Morelos Should Care

City leaders want the music to reach beyond traditional concert halls and into neighborhoods and community spaces. Puerto Morelos is just a short drive up the highway, putting it right in the path of that outreach.

If the orchestra expands as planned, the Riviera Maya corridor could see live performances coming its way.

How to Stay in the Loop

Cancún already runs a theater company, a choir, and a folk ballet. This orchestra is the newest piece of a growing cultural scene.

Watch the Benito Juárez municipal social media pages for concert dates in Cancún. A free orchestra night within driving distance is worth the trip.

If any performances come to Puerto Morelos, they will be listed in our online events calendar, events.puertomorelosinsider.com.

If your eyes are itchy, your nose won't stop running, or you have a nagging cough, the air outside may be the reason. Right now, the Caribbean coast is dealing with some dirty air.

What's Going On

Three things are hitting at once. Pollen is high, heat is stirring up dust, and a giant cloud of Saharan dust is blowing in from Africa. This happens every summer and usually peaks from late June through mid-August.

Who Gets Hit the Hardest

People with asthma or allergies will feel it the most. But even healthy people can get headaches, sore throats, and burning eyes. Kids and older adults need to be extra careful too.

How to Protect Yourself

Stay inside during the hottest part of the day and keep your windows closed. Set your air conditioning to recirculate, and drinking extra water also helps your body fight off irritation.

Most symptoms will pass when the dust cloud moves on. But if you have trouble breathing, see a doctor right away.

Sargassum Report

Puerto Morelos beaches are clean and beautiful right now, even as nearby towns struggle with massive seaweed arrivals. A mix of nature and hard work is keeping things looking great.

The Reef Is a Natural Shield

A giant coral reef sits just offshore and blocks much of the sargassum seaweed before it ever reaches the beach. This gives Puerto Morelos a big advantage over places like Playa del Carmen and Tulum.

The Town Is Pitching In Too

Local officials and the Navy have set up barriers in the water to catch seaweed early. Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz is leading a full-time cleanup crew to remove anything that gets through.

But Don't Relax Too Much

Experts warn this could be a bad sargassum year, and conditions can change fast. The worst months are happening right now, so things could look very different from one day to the next.

Check local beach reports before you go, especially if you have visitors coming to town.

I'm 4 years old, and I'm still waiting for my forever family.

I was rescued as a puppy with my brothers and sisters from a remote wooded area. Two of them have already found loving homes, and now I'm hoping it's my turn.

I'm a calm, gentle girl who can be a little shy at first, but once I feel safe, I'm a loving and loyal companion. I'm smart, obedient, house-trained, and I'll even let you know when I need to go outside.

I'm healthy, spayed, and ready to spend the rest of my life with a family who will love me forever.
