While the big supermarkets have their place, long-time locals know that for the best quality meat and seafood, you go to a specialty shop.
In the heart of the portside neighborhood, you’ll find Carnes y Mariscos del Puerto, a family-owned and operated butcher shop that has become a beloved local institution.
What makes this place special isn’t just the excellent selection of premium beef cuts like arrachera for your carne asada, fresh shrimp, and beautiful salmon fillets. It’s the fact that you can get everything you need for a perfect surf-and-turf barbecue in one stop, a rare convenience.
But the real secret that keeps locals coming back is the warm, personal service from the family who runs it.
They’ll greet you with a smile, remember your usual order, and are always happy to give you a recommendation for what’s best that day.
And if you need it, they also provide helpful advice on portions, cuts, and simple cooking tips.
With fair prices, reliable quality, and convenient free delivery to several neighborhoods on Mondays and Fridays (with a minimum order), it is an easy choice for planning a weekend barbecue, a casual lunch at home, or a special dinner in Puerto Morelos. What People Are Saying:
"Excellent service and a great selection of tasty, top-quality products." ~ Karen M. Facebook
"Excellent products. Shrimp of different sizes, peeled and cleaned if needed. I like that it's so convenient in location. A really good choice of fish, shellfish and meats" ~ Elisabeth W. Facebook

Carnes y Mariscos Del Puerto English Spoken: Yes
👉 Insider Tip: Ask for recommendations based on what you want to cook, not just by product name. Tell them “I want to grill for 4 people” or “I’m making ceviche” and they’ll suggest the best cut or seafood, trim it for you, and portion it out so you don’t overbuy. |

Get ready for a giant Christmas decoration! Cancun is bringing back its "Monumental Burrito Sabanero" for 2025, which is a huge, colorful burrito (meaning 'little donkey') standing 14 meters tall.
This beloved symbol of Christmas in the Mexican Caribbean has been confirmed to return for its fourth year by Cancun's mayor.
The giant donkey first appeared in 2022, quickly becoming a social media sensation.
It moved around a bit, even getting knocked over by strong winds in 2023, but last year it found a perfect spot at Plaza de la Reforma with a strong base. This location was a big hit, drawing thousands of visitors.
This fun burrito is now a special holiday tradition for the region, bringing joy and community spirit to Cancun's Christmas celebrations.
Locals and visitors alike, even from nearby towns, look forward to seeing this unique sight. Make sure to keep an eye out for its official inauguration date in 2025! Read More... |

Tourists visiting Puerto Morelos often face a hidden fee trap that can cost them up to 8% on every purchase.
When paying with a foreign credit card, many businesses ask "Dollars or pesos?"
This seemingly helpful question is actually Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC), a practice where merchants set their own exchange rates instead of letting your bank handle the conversion.
This is a common practice to protect the business from exchange rate fluctuations.
However the DCC rate is almost always much worse than the one your bank would give you. You end up paying extra fees without even realizing it.
DCC doesn't just happen at restaurants and shops. ATMs also offer to convert withdrawals to your home currency, adding significant markups to each transaction.
The solution is simple: always choose to pay or withdraw in Mexican pesos.
Beyond avoiding DCC, paying with pesos cash benefits both travelers and the local community.
Credit card processing fees take 3% to 5% from small businesses, sending money to big banks instead of keeping it in Puerto Morelos.
When you pay cash, vendors keep 100% of the sale, and you avoid foreign transaction fees while eliminating DCC risk entirely.
Withdraw pesos when you arrive, keep cash handy for local purchases, and save your card for larger establishments. Read More... |

💡 Answer to Trivia Question: Ceviche. Ceviche is traditionally “cooked” not with heat, but with the acidity of citrus juice, which transforms the texture of the fish in just minutes. On the Yucatán Peninsula, you’ll find ceviche with local fish and sometimes caracol (conch). |
