This year may not follow the exact same program, but it gives you a good idea of the kind of night to expect.
If you are in town, this is the main patriotic night to watch. Arrive with patience, expect a busy local crowd, and check Ayuntamiento updates before heading out in case more program details are released.

3. 🎨 Women of Mesoamerica Opening Reception
The opening reception is the moment to go if you want a simple cultural stop this weekend, especially before the Independence week energy picks up around town. The exhibit looks at traditions, customs, daily life, and the natural cultural environment of these communities through art.
If you cannot make the opening, the exhibition continues through October 9, with daytime viewing hours from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Fiestas Patrias means “Patriotic Festivities.” In Mexico, it refers to the celebrations surrounding Mexican Independence Day, centered on September 15 and 16.
September 16 is the federal holiday, but September 15 is the night you want to be out in town. |

A Big Step for Local Animals
Puerto Morelos has broken ground on its first Animal Welfare Centre, a new municipal project designed to support stray and vulnerable animals around town.
The project represents a 6 million peso investment and will be built in two phases. The first phase is expected to be finished later this year, with the second planned for 2027.
More Than a Shelter
The centre will include a veterinary office, an operating room, and spaces for sterilization and vaccination. It is meant to provide real medical care, not just temporary holding space.

Residents in Puerto Morelos now have closer access to a new kind of specialized surgery in Quintana Roo.
Hospital General de Cancún has completed the state's first robot-assisted surgeries using the VERSIUS surgical system. For people who rely on public healthcare, Cancún is often the closest point of access for more specialized medical services.
What Actually Happened
The first two procedures were gallbladder removals performed on September 3, shortly after the program was inaugurated on August 31. State officials reported no complications from the initial procedures.
Not an Autonomous Robot
The VERSIUS system is controlled by a trained surgeon using console-style controls and a high-definition 3D view. It is another tool for doctors, not a machine making decisions on its own.

A Bigger Sargassum Response

A record amount of seaweed has hit Quintana Roo in 2026, creating more pressure on crews, beaches, hotels, and coastal towns.
Puerto Morelos as a Hub
The Navy's local operation includes vessels, containment barriers, and beach cleanup work. Puerto Morelos is an important base in that effort, with the Natans already working offshore and another Sargassum vessel expected to join the response.
