Puerto Morelos is buzzing with art this week! Two talented young artists are showing their unique work at our Cultural Center and Museum.
This is a wonderful chance to see fresh art right here in our town.
Domingo Γlvarez, from Puebla, shares eight photographs about big ideas like life and death. Daniel Valle, from Guadalajara, creates cool mobiles and lampshades from paper, showing his thoughts on different parts of life.
Both artists have called the Riviera Maya home for two years. This special show is part of the first-ever Design Week Riviera, bringing art to our region.
Leaders hope it inspires more young people in Puerto Morelos to explore their own creative talents. The museum director praised the artists' unique styles and use of materials.
You can see these amazing exhibits until this coming Saturday. The museum is open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Don't miss this opportunity to support these rising stars and enjoy their beautiful art! Read More... |
Big changes are coming to how our local police work in Puerto Morelos.
Soon, every police officer in Quintana Roo will wear a small camera on their uniform. This new rule starts this year for all 11 towns, aiming to make police actions more open and build trust with the community.
The plan will first begin with police who handle traffic and tourism. Our neighboring city, CancΓΊn, has already bought over 700 cameras that can record for 12 hours.
Puerto Morelos will also get some of the 450 additional devices coming later in 2025, making sure our local officers use this new technology too.
Officers will pick up their cameras at the start of each shift, and the recordings will be stored safely.
The system makes sure officers cannot change the video footage themselves, keeping it honest.
While this is a positive step, questions remain about how all the video will be kept safe, who can look at it, and how it affects our privacy. Read More... |
Big changes are coming for foreigners living in Mexico, especially in popular areas like Puerto Morelos.
Starting in 2026, the cost to get or renew temporary and permanent residency visas will double. This significant increase is part of the country's new national budget plan.
For example, a one-year temporary permit will jump from about $290 to $580. Permanent residency will also get much more expensive, going from $355 to $705. These new prices will begin in 2026 if the government approves the budget.
The government says many foreigners, including digital nomads, have moved to Mexico. This has put more pressure on local services and housing. The new fees will help cover these extra costs and ensure everyone contributes fairly to the country's resources.
This change will affect many people in places like the Yucatan. There might be a 50% discount for some people, but details are still being worked out.
If you plan to live in Mexico, be ready for these higher fees in 2026. Read More... |
