2. Qué Rico es Cancún: Sabores del Pacífico
The monthly cultural and gastronomy festival "Qué Rico es Cancún" returns with its fourth edition, celebrating the Sabores del Pacífico (Flavors of the Pacific) on October 4–5, 2025.
This edition brings the cuisines of Baja California, Sonora, Sinaloa, Nayarit, Jalisco, Colima, Michoacán, Guerrero, Oaxaca, and Chiapas to the heart of Cancún. Expect regional favorites from smoky seafood dishes and rich moles to coastal street snacks and handmade traditional sweets.
Dates: Saturday, October 4 & Sunday, October 5, 2025 Insider Tip: Arriving early is recommended, as the most popular dishes, especially from Oaxaca and Michoacán sell out quickly.
3. Salsa on the Beach with Son De Canay

👉 Insider Tip: Ask for the house salsas. Many visitors don’t realize El Nicho makes their own fresh salsas — not just bottled stuff — and they’ll gladly bring you different blends if you ask. Locals love to add the smoky chipotle or tangy verde to eggs or potatoes. |
Portside Perspective |
"Discovering Puerto Morelos is like finding a secret garden, a place of natural beauty and understated charm that you want to keep all to yourself." |
Insider Tip: Fresh Tortillas |
Skip the Supermarket Tortillas
For an authentic taste, skip the store-bought tortillas and head to a local "tortilleria." You can buy freshly made corn tortillas, still warm, sold by the kilo. The difference in taste is incredible.
There are several in La Colonia, including one that is open 24 hours on the same street as Super Willys, and another near the highway that sells blue corn tortillas. |

On September 25, 2025, Puerto Morelos officially began reconstruction on Vallarta Street, one of the town's busiest routes. Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu Munoz launched the project, which is part of the 2025 Works Program and will cost 5,221,594 pesos.
The upgraded street, located in the Tierra Nueva neighborhood between Timon Avenue and Brujula Street, is expected to benefit more than 6,000 residents who rely on it daily.
The work includes preliminary repairs, a new hydraulic base, five centimeters of asphalt, and the installation of new signage.
While construction will bring some temporary inconvenience, officials stress that it will deliver long‑term benefits, improving safety and mobility for families, students, and workers.
According to Public Works director Mario Salinas Castro, the street renewal is about more than pavement. It is an investment in safer mobility, accident prevention, and higher quality of life for everyone.
Puerto Morelos leaders say the project reflects responsible management of municipal funds as the town expands.
Once finished, Vallarta Street will be smoother, safer, and more functional, connecting older neighborhoods with the new urban center. Read More... |
Puerto Morelos is one of the Riviera Maya's most charming beach towns, and more foreigners are discovering how to make it their second home or investment. Buying property here is absolutely possible, but it's not the same as in the U.S. or Canada.
Foreign buyers in the restricted zone need a fideicomiso, or bank trust, which allows full rights of ownership while the bank holds the title. Setting up the trust and paying annual fees adds to the cost, but it's the safest and most common way to own along the coast.
Upfront expenses often surprise new buyers. Beyond the property price, you'll need to budget around 6% - 10% for closing costs, including the 3% acquisition tax (ISAI), notary fees, recording, and registration.
Notary costs alone can range from 1% - 6% depending on the property and package of services. While the initial outlay can be steep, annual property tax (predial) is very low, usually 0.1% - 0.3% of the assessed value.
With the right real estate agent, a trusted notary, and realistic budgeting, owning property in Puerto Morelos becomes not just a dream, but a smart and achievable goal. Read More... |
