Cancún International Airport, one of Mexico’s busiest gateways for international visitors, has made big improvements to its immigration process.

One of the top complaints from travelers about Cancún airport has always been the extremely long wait times at immigration and customs.

Many visitors have reported waiting anywhere from one to three hours or even longer, in crowded lines, especially when several international flights arrive at the same time or if there are system outages. 

Limited staff, confusing or poorly managed queues, and unreliable use of electronic gates (e-gates) have all contributed to these frustrating delays.

To address these issues, the airport has now managed to cut average wait times at immigration checkpoints to under 20 minutes.

This is a major improvement, making it much faster and less stressful for both domestic and international travelers to enter Cancún.

The airport has also added free Wi-Fi in the immigration area, so passengers can stay connected and let friends or family know they’ve arrived while they wait.

In addition, the information and service provided to international travelers has been improved, making it easier for them to understand what to do from the moment they land until they officially enter the country.

Governor Lezama also pointed out that the southern part of the state continues to issue Regional Visitor Cards, which help boost tourism and business, especially in the capital city of Chetumal and along the border with Central America.

She emphasized that the government is committed to making the arrival process as smooth as possible for everyone.

The goal is to give visitors the best possible first impression of Quintana Roo, the state where Cancún is located.

All these efforts are part of a larger plan to keep the Mexican Caribbean a top destination for tourists.

By making immigration faster and more comfortable, the state hopes to attract even more visitors and support the local economy.
