The boat procession, cultural performances and |

Puerto Morelos’ Mar de Almas Janal Pixán celebration continues on Sunday, November 1, and Monday, November 2, 2026. The two evenings bring together decorated fishing boats, a Maya fire ritual, a Procession of Souls, cultural performances and live music.
If you are making plans, the important distinction is that the boat procession is listed for Sunday. Monday’s published program begins later and focuses on stage performances and recognition for the exhibition altars.

Sunday’s activities begin at 5:30 p.m. with the decorated boat contest. A sacred Maya fire ritual follows at 6 p.m., before the boats begin their procession from the Muelle de Pescadores, or Fishermen’s Pier, at 6:30 p.m.

A Celebration of Remembrance
Janal Pixán, also written Hanal Pixán, means “food for the souls” and is rooted in the Maya tradition of remembering departed loved ones.
For Sunday’s waterfront activities, the Fishermen’s Pier is the named starting point for both processions. Parque Fundadores is the listed venue for the cultural program that follows, making it useful to plan around the part of the evening you most want to see.
The times above follow the supplied 2026 festival program. As with any outdoor event, check for announcements on the official Puerto Morelos government Facebook page about changes before heading out. |
