Mexico just brought home six medals from the prestigious 2025 World Cheese Awards.
This is a huge win for Mexican cuisine on the global stage, showing off the incredible flavors this country has to offer.
Mexico's Cheesy Triumph
The awards were held in Bern, Switzerland, from November 13 to 15.
Mexico's cheeses ranked among the best out of over 5,244 entries from 46 countries. It's a true testament to the hard work and dedication of Mexico's cheesemakers.
Despite competing against countries with long histories of cheesemaking, Mexico shined.
Five of the award‑winning cheeses are from Jalisco, and one is from Querétaro. This success puts Mexico firmly on the map for top-tier cheese production.
The Award-Winning Lineup
Mexico earned a Gold Medal for Finca Las Luciérnagas Andante from Huimilpan, Querétaro. This sheep's milk cheese was also named the Best Latin American Cheese.
Silver Medals went to La Providencia Mozzarella from San Miguel El Alto, Jalisco, and Quesos Navarro Cheddar from Tepatitlán de Morelos, Jalisco. Judges said the cheddar could compete anywhere in the world.
Quesos Navarro also took home a Silver for their Panela cheese.
Bronze Medals were awarded to Quesos Navarro Queso Fresco and Quesos Navarro Queso Menonita.
These traditional Mexican cheeses are enjoyed across the country. It’s wonderful to see them recognized internationally.
A Win for All of Mexico
While these award-winning cheeses come from other parts of Mexico, their success is a source of pride for all of Mexico. It highlights the rich culinary traditions and quality ingredients found throughout the nation.
Here in Puerto Morelos, we appreciate good food and the unique flavors that make Mexican cuisine so special.
Even if these specific cheeses aren't on every shelf in our local stores, this recognition encourages us to explore the diverse world of Mexican cheeses.
You might find some delicious varieties in specialty shops or markets. They can be a wonderful addition to your meals, from a simple snack to enhancing a local dish.
Judges Criteria
The judges looked at appearance, smell, taste, and texture. They blind-tasted thousands of entries, making Mexico's six medals truly well-deserved.
This win reminds us of the high standards and delicious flavors Mexico's cheese producers are achieving.
The next World Cheese Awards will be in CĂłrdoba, Spain, in 2026. We'll be cheering on Mexico's cheesemakers again, hoping for even more success. |
