Big news for our roads, neighbors! Federal officials just unveiled plans for some major upgrades right here in Puerto Morelos. These projects promise smoother commutes and safer travels for everyone.
Major Road Upgrades Ahead
The Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation, known as SICT, is bringing two big projects to our area. They aim to tackle traffic issues, improve how we connect, and boost safety on our main highways. This is a welcome change for our growing community.
The Petempich Overpass
One exciting plan is an overpass for Federal Highway 307. It will be built at the entrance to BahĂa Petempich. This overpass will make it much easier and safer to cross and merge onto the highway.
Our Mayor, Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz, shared that the municipal government will be responsible for managing the execution of this overpass project, working with federal and state authorities.
It’s listed as a priority project, and local officials say they will be pushing to move it forward. This will really help with traffic flow on one of Quintana Roo’s busiest roads.
Wider Highway 180 for Leona Vicario
SICT also plans to widen and modernize Federal Highway 180. This section runs from the exit to Cancun all the way to the Yucatan border. It includes the part that goes through Leona Vicario, specifically from kilometer 272 to 278.
This widening project is so important that it even caused a delay in some local plans. Mayor Merari explained that sidewalk construction in Leona Vicario was postponed. This was to avoid building new sidewalks only to have them torn up for the highway expansion.
Boosting Our Town's Future
These infrastructure projects are a big deal for Puerto Morelos. They are designed to help our municipality grow and make driving much safer for residents and visitors alike. Mario Salinas Castro, our Secretary of Public Works, agrees.
He believes widening Highway 180 will ease traffic and improve safety in Leona Vicario. The Petempich overpass will also solve key mobility problems. These changes will help modernize our state and local roads, making it easier to travel between tourist spots and supporting our vital tourism economy.
It’s clear these plans are a step forward for Puerto Morelos. We can look forward to better, safer roads that support our town’s continued development. |
