Hotel Rates Are Climbing 35% This Winter. Here Is What Puerto Morelos Visitors Need to Know. |
The region's hotel association is pushing for its biggest price increase in years, and the negotiations happening right now will set the tone for the entire winter season. |

The hotel industry that represents Puerto Morelos is pushing for some of the biggest rate increases in years, and the negotiations are happening right now.
The Plan to Raise Prices
The Cancún, Puerto Morelos and Isla Mujeres Hotel Association is heading into its annual Travel Mart with one clear goal: push hotel rates up by 25 to 35 percent for the winter season.
Rodrigo de la Peña, president of the hotel association, said rates in 2024 and 2025 ran about 10 percent below what the sector had previously achieved. After two years of discounted pricing, hoteliers want to recover that lost ground.
It is worth noting that a 35 percent jump would not apply to every hotel across the board. The biggest increases are expected at properties that have renovated their facilities and can offer a stronger, more differentiated product.
Why Prices Dropped in the First Place
The last two years were tough for the region's hotel sector. A combination of market pressure and competition drove properties to cut rates just to fill rooms. The industry now says that race to the bottom hurt everyone, and they do not want to repeat it.
The strategy going into this winter is to compete on quality, not just price. The association wants to protect the value of the Mexican Caribbean as a destination, which means keeping discounts from becoming the main selling point.
What the Travel Mart Actually Does
The Cancún Travel Mart is the biggest commercial negotiating event for the region. Tour operators, travel agencies, and major international companies sit down with local hotels and suppliers to set the contracts that will define pricing and bookings for the months ahead.
Last year's edition generated around $5.2 billion dollars in business. Organizers are aiming to top that number this year.
Recent editions have drawn over 500 delegates from more than 27 countries. The current registration count for this year's event was not available at press time.
What This Means for You
If you own a vacation rental or small hotel in Puerto Morelos, this is good news for the direction of the market. Higher rates at the larger properties tend to lift pricing expectations across the whole destination.
If you are a visitor planning a winter trip, expect to pay more than you did last year, especially at hotels that have recently upgraded. The best deals will likely go to those who book early, before winter contracts are fully locked in.
The winter season, running roughly from November through January, is traditionally the most commercially important period of the year for Puerto Morelos, Cancún, and Isla Mujeres. How these negotiations land at the Travel Mart in October will set the tone for the rest of 2026.
