The World Cup is almost here, and Puerto Morelos is getting ready to cheer. The opening match will be a big one for local fans, with Mexico vs. South Africa on Thursday, June 11 at 2:00 PM Puerto Morelos time, and several restaurants and bars around town are planning watch parties, food and drink specials, and match-day fun.
This is not meant to be an exhaustive list, but it is a good starting point if you are looking for a place to catch the opener or settle in for games throughout the tournament. As always, check directly with the venue before heading out, because schedules, reservations, promotions, and TV coverage can change.
El Pirata Restaurant is on the list thanks to a direct confirmation from the owner that they will be showing World Cup games. Located on Avenida Javier Rojo Gómez, it is a convenient choice for anyone staying or spending the day on the beach side of Puerto Morelos.
Maíz Maix is going big for the opener. Their flyer promotes a live transmission of Mexico vs. South Africa with free entry, beer at half price during the match, botanas and boneless specials, a free shot for each goal by your chosen team, and halftime activities. Reservations are available by WhatsApp at +52 998 222 0745.
La Sirena Restaurant & Events is also leaning into the World Cup spirit, calling itself a World Cup home base in the Riviera Maya. For the opening match, they are advertising doors open at 11:00 AM, the opening ceremony at 12:30 PM, and kickoff at 2:00 PM, with free entry when consuming food and drinks. Their message says it well: come for the match, stay for the music.
Mile’s Kitchen Puerto Morelos is another Port Side option, with a “World Cup Match Day Specials” flyer inviting fans to watch, eat, and cheer. Their regular menu will also be available, making it a good choice for those who want a meal with the match rather than just drinks.
La Colonia Options
Micheladas del Semáforo is advertising “La Fiesta del Futbol” for Thursday, June 11, welcoming fans from 12:00 PM. If you are looking for a high-energy local atmosphere for the Mexico opener, this one should be on your radar.
Los Koras is showing Mexico vs. South Africa live on June 11 and is adding live banda after the game. That makes it a good pick for fans who want the match to turn into a longer afternoon or evening out.
Siete Lenguas Sports Bar is built for this kind of thing. Their match-day flyer promotes a sports bar atmosphere with botanas gratis with purchase and cubetas from $200 pesos, making it a strong La Colonia option for groups planning to settle in for multiple matches.
A Quick Match-Day Tip
For the Mexico opener, plan ahead. The most popular spots may fill up early, especially if they are offering promotions or live music.
