World-Class Ballet Is Coming to Playa del Carmen This April

Panama's National Ballet is heading to Playa del Carmen next month, and that means one of the most storied dance companies in Latin America will be performing just 30 minutes down the road from Puerto Morelos.

The Panama National Ballet will perform its "Don Quixote" suite on April 15 and 16 at 7 p.m. at the Teatro de la Ciudad in Playa del Carmen.

The performances are part of a push by the Playa del Carmen municipal government to bring world-class cultural events to the region.

Who Is the Panama National Ballet

This is not a small regional troupe. The Panama National Ballet is a prominent company with a distinguished record of international performances across Russia, Cuba, Costa Rica, Peru, the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, Ecuador, and Colombia, with upcoming tours in Brazil, Spain, and Japan.

The company is led by artistic director Sasha Adamovic, originally from Belgrade, Serbia. He was a principal dancer at the National Theater in Belgrade before joining the Panama National Ballet.

In 2001, he became the first director to stage "Swan Lake" in Panama. The company is presenting "Swan Lake" ("Lago de los Cisnes") at Panama's Teatro Nacional from March 27-29 as part of its ambitious 2026 season.
