Puerto Morelos will make history by hosting its first full-scale bodybuilding and strength competition on Saturday, April 18, and the best part is that it's completely free to attend.

What Is NABBA, and Why Does It Matter?

NABBA, or National Amateur Body-Builders' Association, is a historic bodybuilding organization.

It was founded in the United Kingdom in 1950 and is one of the oldest and most respected bodybuilding organizations in the world. Past Mr. Universe title holders include legends like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Steve Reeves.

In Mexico, NABBA has grown into a serious competitive circuit with events held across multiple states.

Quintana Roo has become a strong presence in the national scene, with local athletes competing at the national NABBA championship level and setting their sights on the Mr. Universe stage in Europe.

What's Happening in Puerto Morelos

The event is called "Sr. y Srta. NABBA Puerto Morelos," or Mr. and Miss NABBA Puerto Morelos. It is organized by Profidemex A.C. and El Gym del Puerto.

Profidemex, short for Promotora de Fisicoconstructivismo y Deportes de México, is a civil association formed in Cancun, Quintana Roo, with the goal of bringing together gym owners, coaches, and fitness professionals.

The competition will take place at the "César Martín Rosado" Taxi Union hall in Puerto Morelos. It will feature men's and women's bodybuilding categories at 1:00 PM.

And also with a "Strongest Man and Woman" challenge at 9:00 AM that includes events like free squats, tire flips, deadlifts, and surprise tests.

Luis Tamay, president of NABBA Quintana Roo, emphasized the importance of creating spaces for sports talent development in the region.

Roger Ramírez Cervantes, the NABBA Puerto Morelos organizer, noted that this is the first time an event of this kind has come to Puerto Morelos.

A Local Gym Behind a Big Moment

El Gym del Puerto, located on Calle Trasatlántico in Villas Morelos, has been a cornerstone of fitness in this community for years. The gym is known for its old-school training atmosphere and dedicated coaching.

Laura Ruíz, representing El Gym del Puerto, welcomed the partnership with NABBA Quintana Roo and expressed hope that the event becomes an annual tradition here.

The municipal government is also backing the event. Renán Cruz Ramírez, director of the Municipal Sports Institute, confirmed the municipality's support on behalf of Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz.

Why This Is a Big Deal for Puerto Morelos

Events like this don't normally happen here. They usually happen in Cancun or Playa del Carmen.

Bringing a NABBA-sanctioned competition to town puts Puerto Morelos on the regional sports map and gives local athletes a home stage for the first time.

Athlete Eduardo Sirvan, who will compete Saturday, called the event a meaningful platform for local talent. Organizers expect both local and regional athletes to participate.

Mark Your Calendar

The event will take place on Saturday, April 18, at the "César Martín Rosado" Taxi Union hall.

It is free and open to the public, family-friendly, and will include various disciplines. Whether you follow bodybuilding or just want to see something new in town, this one is worth showing up for.
