Most Puerto Morelos visitors fly in and out of Cancun International Airport, just 20 minutes up the highway.

And if you are heading back to the United States or Canada, you are almost certainly leaving from Terminal 3.

T3 on a busy Sunday afternoon is, to put it kindly, a lot. Long lines, crowded gates, overpriced food, and spotty Wi-Fi. But there is one escape hatch that most travelers do not know about until it is too late to use it.

There Is A Lounge, But You Cannot Just Walk In

The MERA VIP Lounge is one of the premium lounges in Terminal 3, located on the upper floor near Gate C17. You will find it after you clear security and pass through the duty-free area.

The lounge spans 290 square meters and accommodates up to 80 guests, with capacity reaching 95 under optimal conditions. That is the catch. Walk-up visitors are almost always turned away or stuck on a long waiting list.

The only way to guarantee a spot is to book online in advance, ideally days before your flight.

What It Costs And What You Get

A pass currently runs about 950 Mexican pesos, which works out to roughly 49 to 55 US dollars depending on the exchange rate that day.

That gets you up to three hours inside before your flight. Included in that price is access to a hot and cold buffet, a domestic open bar, fast Wi-Fi, charging stations, plush seating, and a concierge.

The lounge is also pet-friendly, which is a nice bonus if you are traveling home with a dog or cat.

When you consider that a burger and two beers at the terminal restaurants can easily run 50 dollars or more, the math starts to make a lot of sense.

The MERA VIP Lounge operates from 5:30 AM to 9:00 PM, seven days a week. Check your departure time before you book.

The best advice is simple. Once your flights are confirmed, book the lounge the same day. Do not wait until you are already at the airport. Spots fill up fast, especially on weekends, and walk-ins almost never get in.
