Get ready, Puerto Morelos! Our beautiful town is about to transform for the Day of the Dead, known locally as Janal Pixan.
This year, the "Mar de Almas" Festival promises to be bigger and more vibrant than ever. It is a time for us to honor our loved ones who have passed, filled with color, creativity, and community spirit.
A Sea of Souls on Our Pier
One of the most unique events here in Puerto Morelos is the Decorated Boat Contest. Imagine our main pier filled with fishing boats and nautical vessels, all adorned with Day of the Dead themes. It is a truly special sight.
These beautifully decorated boats will be on display on November 1st and 2nd, 2025. And they are asking for biodegradable or recyclable materials to keep our ocean clean.
Decorating Our Old Town
The charming Old Town area will also get into the spirit with the Decorated Facade Contest.
Local businesses and homes will dress up their storefronts and houses with festive Day of the Dead decorations. This creates a wonderful atmosphere for everyone walking through the streets.
You can see these decorated facades from October 25th to November 3rd, 2025. It is a fantastic way to show off the community's creativity.
Handcrafted Art and Grand Displays
The "Mar de Almas" (Sea of Souls) Festival also features contests for handcrafted art.
Residents of Puerto Morelos can show off their skills in the Catrina and Handcrafted Alebrijes Contest. These pieces must be between 50 centimeters and 1 meter tall.
For something truly spectacular, look out for the Monumental Catrinas Contest. Hotels in Puerto Morelos will create huge Catrinas, standing between 3 and 5 meters tall.
These impressive works will be exhibited on November 1st and 2nd.
These celebrations are a heartfelt way to keep local traditions alive and remember those who came before us.
Come out and enjoy the beauty and spirit of Janal Pixan right here in Puerto Morelos. You will not want to miss it. |
