Get ready, Puerto Morelos, for a truly special event that brings our community together.

The "Janal Pixan La Ruta de los Altares," or "The Route of the Altars," is returning for its seventh year.

This is a beautiful way to honor our traditions and remember loved ones who have passed.

A Unique Celebration of Life

Janal Pixan is the Mayan celebration of Day of the Dead. It's a time when families welcome the souls of their ancestors back home.

In Puerto Morelos, this means creating vibrant altars filled with offerings.

These altars are placed on home exteriors, glowing with lights and candles. They are a heartfelt tribute, showcasing the creativity and deep respect of our local families.

Ride the Muertobús

One of the best ways to experience this event is by riding the special "Muertobús." This free bus service offers a unique tour of the altars.

It's a fantastic way to see many beautiful displays without walking the whole route.

The Muertobús will run on November 1 and 2. You can board at 6:00 pm, 7:30 pm, and 8:30 pm.

All trips depart from the Parque de la Colonia, so arrive a little early to secure your spot.

Explore on Foot

If you prefer a closer look, you can also tour the altars on foot. This allows you to really soak in the details and artistry of each display.

Walking the route gives you a chance to appreciate the intricate work families put into their altars.

The altars begin to light up around 6:00 pm. It's a magical sight as our streets come alive with these glowing tributes.

Community Spirit and Tradition

This event is a wonderful example of our community's strong spirit. It's organized by the collective "Una Cuadra" and the Institute of Culture and the Arts.

Their efforts help keep our cherished traditions alive for everyone to enjoy.

Local families pour their hearts into creating these altars. It's a moving experience that connects us to our past and to each other.

Register Your Altar

For those who want to be part of the route, registering an altar is simple. Just send a WhatsApp message to 998 414 1275.

You'll need to include the name of your altar, your family name, origin, address, and date of participation.

Winning altars will even be entered into a lottery for prizes. It's a fun incentive to share your family's beautiful traditions with the community.

Don't miss this chance to witness a truly special Puerto Morelos tradition. Whether you ride the Muertobús or walk the route, you're in for a memorable experience.

It's a beautiful way to celebrate life, remember those we've lost, and connect with our vibrant culture.
