The Quintana Roo government has finished a major project to modernize Puerto Morelos' land registry.
The project used advanced aerial photography and LiDAR technology to create detailed, accurate maps of our town.
What Was Done
The State Geographic and Cadastral Institute (IGECE) completed this project in 2025. It covered 350 square kilometers of Puerto Morelos territory. The work created high-precision maps through aerial images and three-dimensional terrain models.
The mapping was processed at a 1:1,000 scale. This allows for very accurate representation of both urban and rural areas in our municipality.
Benefits for Property Owners
This update brings stronger legal security for property owners in Puerto Morelos. The new mapping precisely shows the location, size, and characteristics of land parcels throughout our town.
Property buyers and sellers will have greater certainty in real estate transactions. The detailed mapping will also help with property regularization processes, which has been a concern for many local residents.
Benefits for the Municipality
The municipal government will be able to improve efficiency in collecting property taxes and cadastral fees. This could mean better services for our community as tax collection becomes more accurate.
The new mapping will serve as a valuable tool for urban planning and defining land use. It will help officials make better decisions about territorial reserves and development.
Environmental Protection
Our coastal environment will benefit from this technology too. The mapping will support protection of the Federal Maritime Terrestrial Zone (ZOFEMAT) and improve coastal management.
Puerto Morelos, with its delicate reef ecosystem, will gain from better environmental planning tools. The technology will help identify areas vulnerable to flooding and erosion, strengthening civil protection capabilities.
What This Means for Residents
For everyday residents of Puerto Morelos, this technological update might not be immediately visible. However, the long-term benefits include more organized urban growth, better environmental protection, and improved municipal services.
Property owners should eventually notice more accurate property records and potentially a more efficient process when dealing with land-related paperwork at municipal offices.
The project represents an important step toward modernizing Puerto Morelos' infrastructure as our town continues to grow while working to preserve its natural beauty and small-town charm. |
