A new program is in the works that gives you a reason to eat your way across Puerto Morelos, and then keep going all the way into the jungle.

What Is the Ruta del Tacón?

The Puerto Morelos Tourism Secretariat, led by Karina Vázquez Díaz, is developing a culinary tourism program called the "Ruta del Tacón."

The concept is simple: visit participating restaurants, try their taco offerings and collect stamps in a tourist passport along the way. Complete the route and you unlock promotions and benefits tied to the Ruta de los Cenotes.

The municipality is expected to involve roughly 20 local businesses, though the exact launch date and final branding details have not yet been announced.

Why This Makes Sense Here

Puerto Morelos already has a real food scene. The town square area on Javier Rojo Gómez has long been a go-to for locals and visitors alike, with street taco stalls, family-run seafood spots and casual restaurants that do not feel like tourist traps.

Fish tacos, ceviche, and regional Yucatecan flavors are easy to find if you know where to look. The challenge has always been getting visitors to wander beyond the beach and the main square.

A passport-style program gives people a low-pressure reason to explore the Colonia side of town, discover smaller neighborhood spots and try places they might have walked past without a second thought.

The Cenote Connection

The tie-in with the Ruta de los Cenotes is significant. That route extends inland from Puerto Morelos toward Leona Vicario and is known for cenotes and outdoor attractions, but the article should cite a source for the specific distance, attractions listed, and any award claim.

By linking taco passport rewards to the cenote route, the municipality is essentially saying: eat lunch in town, then head into the jungle for the afternoon. That is a full day in Puerto Morelos, and it is exactly the kind of experience that keeps visitors here longer and spending locally.

What to Watch For

The program is still being developed, so details on participating restaurants, passport pickup locations and exact rewards have not been released. Keep an eye on official announcements from the Puerto Morelos Tourism Secretariat.

When it launches, this could be one of the easiest and most enjoyable ways to explore more of Puerto Morelos, one taco at a time.
