Two Nights of Free Rock in Cancun, and It's Worth the Drive
Live rock music is not exactly easy to find on a Friday night around Puerto Morelos. But this weekend, Cancun is offering something rare, two back-to-back tribute concerts, both free, both at one of the best rock bars in the region.
The Venue: Route 666 Bikers Bar
Route 666 Bikers Bar, a Cancun rock venue, is hosting two back-to-back tribute concerts this weekend.
It is the kind of place that feels lived-in, loud, and genuine, a far cry from the tourist-facing clubs on the Hotel Zone strip. For locals who love rock, it has become a go-to spot for exactly this kind of event.
Friday Night: The Cure, Done Right
On Friday, May 15, Desintegrados is scheduled to take the stage. Desintegrados, a Cure tribute band based in Ecatepec de Morelos, performs both acoustic and electric sets of Cure classics.
Expect classics like "Just Like Heaven," "Friday I'm in Love," "Boys Don't Cry," and "Lovesong." If you were ever a fan of Robert Smith and the moody, atmospheric sound that defined a generation of alternative rock, this one is worth showing up for.
Saturday Night: Guns N' Roses From Merida
The following night, Saturday, May 16, Mr. Brownstone is scheduled to roll in from Merida. The band is known for capturing the raw energy of Guns N' Roses at their peak, the late-80s and early-90s era when the band was genuinely dangerous and exciting.
Think "Welcome to the Jungle," "Sweet Child O' Mine," "Paradise City," and "November Rain." If you want to see a crowd go absolutely wild, this is your night.
Getting There From Puerto Morelos
Puerto Morelos sits about 36 kilometers south of Cancun's city center, roughly a 30 to 40-minute drive north on the 307. Taxis and colectivos run regularly, and rideshares are easy to grab heading back south late at night.
The Best Part: It's Free
Both concerts carry zero cover charge. That means your only costs are the drive and whatever you order at the bar. For a weekend of live rock this close to home, that is a very hard deal to pass up. |
