The key players and projects bringing next-gen |
Multiple major fiber-optic networks, both terrestrial and subsea, are being built across the Yucatan Peninsula in 2025.
This means more capacity, enhanced reliability, and faster internet for residents and businesses in Puerto Morelos, from streaming and remote work to tourism and smart infrastructure.
What’s Being Built—and Why It Matters
1. MX Fiber & Nokia Optical Backbone
A state-of-the-art, ~1,800 km DWDM network using Nokia’s 1830 PSS and Flex-Grid technology.
~400 km fiber corridor linking Mérida, Cancún, and Playa del Carmen, aiming for up to 96 Tbps capacity.
~7,000 km cable system connecting Florida, the Caribbean, and Central America—plus a ~99.9 km Mexican Caribbean segment.
Ongoing expansion of fiber-fed infrastructure and public Wi-Fi hotspots nationwide, including in Quintana Roo.
Puerto Morelos: Signs of Progress on the Ground
Free Municipal Wi-Fi in Central Town: Gignet is installing public Wi-Fi modules—an early indicator of fiber-fed backhaul now reaching town centers.
What You Can Do Now
Check fiber availability at your address regularly—even if your ISP isn’t advertising it yet.
Puerto Morelos is on the brink of a connectivity upgrade. As 2025 progresses, backbone networks will open the way for stronger, faster, more reliable local internet.
Households, businesses, and visitors stand to benefit—from better streaming to expanded remote work opportunities and smoother tourism operations. |
