Something big is happening right here in town, and it has nothing to do with the beach.
What Is the Puerto Morelos International Painting Symposium?
The First International Painting Symposium of Puerto Morelos runs from June 17 to 28 at the Centro Cultural y Museo de Puerto Morelos.
Artists from Spain, France, China, the United Kingdom, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Turkey, and Mexico are here to paint, create, and connect with this place we call home.
The event was organized by the Centro Cultural y Museo de Puerto Morelos, in partnership with local cultural organizations and the municipal Institute of Culture and Arts.
It was made possible through the support of the local administration and municipal authorities.
What the Artists Are Painting
This is not a generic art show. The artists are drawing their inspiration directly from Puerto Morelos itself.
The program includes themed creative sessions dedicated to the Faro Inclinado, the Mesoamerican Reef, the jungle, the mangroves, the cenotes, and the Caribbean's unique flora and fauna, according to the event's organizers.
Together, the artists will also create a collective mural called "Los Colores del Caribe," which is expected to become one of the defining pieces of the entire event.
You Can Watch It Happen
This is not a closed-door event. The symposium is open to the public throughout its run. Residents and visitors can stop by the museum for studio tours, artist talks, conferences, and live music. Y
ou can watch the paintings take shape in real time and talk directly with the artists about their process.
The closing exhibition and ceremony are scheduled for June 28, so mark your calendar.
A Lasting Gift to Puerto Morelos
When the symposium ends, the artworks created during the event will be donated to the Centro Cultural y Museo de Puerto Morelos to become part of its permanent cultural collection.
That means the paintings inspired by our reef, our lighthouse, and our mangroves will stay here, for the community, for future generations.
Organizers noted that this symposium marks an important milestone in the cultural history of the municipality.
Puerto Morelos has always been more than a beach town. Events like this one prove it. |
