Puerto Morelos is getting a makeover at the beach.
The town is spending 996,689 pesos on new lifeguard towers, information kiosks, and walkways designed to last in the salty ocean air.
Why These Upgrades Matter
Puerto Morelos depends on tourism to keep its economy strong. Better beach infrastructure means safer visits for tourists and locals alike.
Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz says the projects are part of a bigger plan to improve security, services, and the town's image.
The upgrades show that Puerto Morelos takes beach safety seriously. Lifeguard towers are critical for watching swimmers and spotting problems in the water. New information kiosks help visitors find their way around town.
What's Being Built
The Playa Sol lifeguard tower is getting a complete repair. Workers are fixing railings, stairs, and wooden parts. They are also adding non-slip rubber coating to the floor and safety treads to prevent slips and falls.
A new mobile information module called "Ventana al Mar" or "Window to the Sea" is being constructed. This kiosk can be moved around and will help tourists get information about the area.
The most ambitious project is the Arrope Gradas de Fondo walkway. This five-meter-high structure will include an elevated guardhouse, safety railings, and a roof with vegetation. The base is made from treated zapote wood that can handle the humid coastal environment.
Built to Last
The Secretary of Public Works, Mario Salinas Castro, explains that all materials are specially treated for coastal areas. Regular wood and metal corrode quickly near the ocean because of salt and humidity.
The treated materials and construction methods used here are designed to resist these harsh conditions. This means the infrastructure will last longer and save money in the long run.
Looking Ahead
These improvements reflect Puerto Morelos' commitment to being a world-class destination. The town has been working hard to attract visitors while maintaining its small-town charm.
With safer beaches and better tourist services, Puerto Morelos is positioning itself as a reliable choice for visitors exploring the Riviera Maya. The investment shows local leadership understands that quality infrastructure builds confidence in travelers. |
