Our beautiful Puerto Morelos is about to play a big part in an exciting new plan for tourism. By joining a special pathway connecting the best cenotes across our peninsula, all working together.
This is the idea behind Mexico's First National Cenote Corridor.
A New Vision for Our Region
The plan comes from our neighbors in Playa del Carmen, led by their tourism secretary, Estefanía Hernández. She wants to show visitors more than just our amazing beaches.
The goal is to offer different kinds of tourism, like nature and eco-tourism, that bring new people to our area.
Puerto Morelos has been invited to join this big project. So have other towns like Tulum, Felipe Carrillo Puerto, and Cozumel in Quintana Roo, plus Valladolid and Mérida in Yucatán.
Together, they will highlight the natural wonders of our peninsula, especially our unique cenotes.
Puerto Morelos and the Ruta de los Cenotes
We in Puerto Morelos know how special our cenotes are. Our very own Ruta de los Cenotes is already a famous spot for adventure and natural beauty.
This new corridor means our local cenotes, like those on the Ruta, will be part of a bigger, more recognized network.
This initiative will help visitors from all over the world discover the magic of our underwater caves and crystal-clear waters. It's a chance to share what makes Puerto Morelos truly unique.
Protecting Our Natural Treasures
This isn't just about showing off our cenotes, it's also about keeping them safe.
The plan includes creating a program to protect and certify cenotes. This means making sure they have the right facilities and are safe for visitors.
Experts like Cenotes Urbanos and Centinelas del Agua are helping with this important work.
They will make sure that every cenote in the corridor meets high standards. This is great news for our local environment and for future generations.
Benefits for Our Community
With over 10,000 cenotes on the peninsula, this corridor has huge potential. It will attract new visitors from places like Germany, Italy, Spain, and South America, who love nature tourism.
This can bring more business to our local guides, restaurants, and shops.
The project is designed to last a long time, beyond any single government. It will be presented at a big tourism fair in Spain in 2026.
This shows how serious everyone is about making this a lasting success for all of us.
Our cenotes are more than just pretty places, they are a key part of our identity and our amazing ecosystem.
This new corridor promises to bring both recognition and protection to these incredible natural wonders right here in Puerto Morelos. |
