Puerto Morelos Gets a Fresh Look by Clearing Abandoned Cars |

Puerto Morelos Insider
Aug 27, 2025
If you've wandered through Puerto Morelos, you may have noticed old cars taking up space on side streets, gathering dust, and making it harder to find parking.
That's changing fast. The local government has stepped up its campaign to clear abandoned vehicles from public roads, giving our town a cleaner and safer look.
Officials say abandoned cars are more than just an eyesore. They take up valuable parking, make streets feel less safe, and can even block sidewalks or narrow roads.
By removing them, Puerto Morelos is opening up the streets again so both drivers and pedestrians can move more freely. It's all part of a push to keep the town welcoming for residents and visitors alike.
The program isn't new, but in recent weeks it has gained steam.
Authorities are focusing not only in the main town but also in areas like Leona Vicario, where enforcement has been especially intense.
Cars left sitting too long are tagged with a warning, and if they're not moved in time, they're sent off to the municipal impound lot.
This cleanup also applies to vehicles parked on streets for long-term repairs or paint jobs. The message is simple: streets are for moving traffic, not storage.
Locals are already noticing a difference. Streets feel less cluttered, there's a bit more breathing room when looking for a parking spot, and the overall vibe of the town looks brighter.
It's a small step toward keeping Puerto Morelos as the charming seaside community we all love.
How to Report an Abandoned Vehicle
If you see a car that looks abandoned, you can report it through the Secretaria Municipal de Seguridad Ciudadana.
The easiest way is to call the local Transito office at 998-702-4860 or make a report through the official Puerto Morelos municipal website. Provide the location and, if possible, a photo.
It's another example of neighbors working together with the town to keep Puerto Morelos safe, clean, and beautiful for everyone. |
