Puerto Morelos is gearing up for some exciting changes.
Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz announced in September 2025 a series of ambitious projects designed to improve daily life and strengthen the town's infrastructure.
From a new district park to a comprehensive bicycle network, these initiatives aim to make Puerto Morelos more livable and sustainable.
The Municipal Institute for Urban Development Planning (Implan), led by director VÃctor Aragón Madrigal, is spearheading these efforts.
Their focus is on creating spaces that benefit both residents and visitors while preserving the town's unique character.
These ideas focus on making our town better for everyone, from how we plan our neighborhoods to how we get around.
Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu Munoz shared that the Municipal Institute for Urban Development Planning, or Implan, is key to these plans.
They provide the research and studies needed to build the Puerto Morelos we all dream of. These projects are designed to strengthen our community and help our economy grow.
This park will be easy to get to and will use native plants, making it a green and welcoming spot for all.
Another important project is a new bicycle network.
This network will connect our town, reaching the Maya Train stations and national parks. It will link up important roads like Joaquin Zetina Gasca and Timon avenues.
The plan includes green spaces and clear road signs.
Plus, we are getting a BiciEscuela, or bike school, in partnership with the Mapaches MTB Puerto Morelos Cycling Club. It is set to open in 2026.
You can learn basic bike repairs, traffic rules, and road safety. They will also host talks on healthy living and the rights of walkers and cyclists.
Victor Aragon Madrigal, the director of Implan, says all these projects consider sustainability while including local businesses.
For example, a new municipal market is planned for Villas Morelos II. This market will be a central spot to boost our local businesses. It will be easy to use and adaptable for both sellers and shoppers.
It will have adoption areas, vet offices, and even a shelter with 61 cages. This means better care for our furry friends.
The town is also working on making our streets more accessible. Three new urban infrastructure projects will help create safe crossings for everyone.
This includes people with disabilities. They will feature special ramps, tactile guides, and good lighting.
We can look forward to a more connected, safer, and more accessible Puerto Morelos for years to come. |
